The Process Of Driving Instructor Training

The Driving Instructor Training Course...

To become an Approved driving instructor in the UK you must successfully complete all 3 parts of the driving instructor training course. The Three Parts consist of:

Part 1 Of The Driving Instructor Training Course....

Your theory test will consist of testing your knowledge on the Highway Code and the other course material that we provide you with. You will do take the test which will last for approximately 90minutes on a computer. There will be 100 multiple choice questions for you to answer and to pass you are required to answer 85 or more questions correctly. That includes 20 questions in each of the required four subject bands. Band one is solely made up of 25 Road Procedure questions. Band two has questions on Traffic Signs/signals, car control, pedestrians and mechanical knowledge. The third band will test your learnt knowledge on the driving test, disabilities and the law. Finally part four of the test will be based on your Instructor capability and knowledge.

For the next section you will be asked to take a test on Hazard Perception. You will be asked to watch 14 clips that would represent what you would see as a driver. You must identify all the moving hazards in this clip, Hazards as you know are anything that causes you to slow down, stop or change direction. The test works so that each time you spot a hazard you must click on it using the mouse button provided. This will let the examiner know that you have seen and made a mental note of the hazard. You will score higher the earlier you click the button as this means you have quickly detected the hazard. 5 is the maximum any one can score on each hazard, there will be about fifteen hazards shown in total. You will be required to pass a minimum of 57 from the total of 75.

Part 2 Of The Driving Instructor Training Course....

The test for this section of your training is not dissimilar to the current Driving Test. It is very much the same apart from some differences. These include the eyesight test; you will be required to see a number plate at a slightly longer distance. This is currently at 27.5 to 26.5 metres instead of the normal 20.5 metres. Also the general duration of the test is longer so that you are able to demonstrate the required set manoeuvres. Because this is Instructor training you will have to perform to a higher standard than a student driver would. Another difference is that you will be allowed a total of 6 minor driving faults during the test. Want Driving Lessons will provide all the course material and training so that you will be fully prepared to take this test.

Don't Forget You Can Earn While You Train!

By this point in your learning you will be starting to develop professionally as a Driving Instructor. Want Driving Lessons will at this point offer you the opportunity to begin work on a franchise package designed for PDI’s (or Partly Trained Driving Instructors). This option comes highly recommended as it offers you a guaranteed job with us by the end of the course.

Part 3 Of The Driving Instructor Training Course...

You shall personally conduct two half-hour driving lessons on pre-selected subjects that the examiner will have chosen. The examiner will play the role of your pupil and will assess your instructing ability. He or she will purposely make mistakes and ask questions as any student would do. You as the instructor will need to elaborate on the mistakes and reasons why you have done so.

You must also elaborate on other areas such as what you hope to achieve during the lessons, give relevant explanations where necessary and support the pupil as they learn. The examiner will reward you with a grade out of six for your performance. You will need to score a 4 or above in order to pass. Once again Want Driving Lessons will make sure that you are fully prepared to take the test and complete your instructor training fully.

Once Completed You Will Be A Qualified Driving Instructor...

Once you have passed these three parts of your instructor training you will be awarded with a green badge which indicates that you are a fully qualified Driving Instructor.
